Magnetometry and Space Weather

Who: Lockie Cresswell

Lockie, has in the field of Magnetometry for over 30 years. He has a Masters Degree in Physics and his hobbies include Radio Astronomy, Particle Physics and Cricket.

Between 1939 and the start of the International Geophysical year in 1957, Solar and Radio Scientists established the military value of solar monitoring. Since then, physicists and engineers around the world have inaugurated programs for observing the Sun's invisible radiations. It's radio emissions were studied by using ground based antennas and rocket-born detectors were used to study X-ray and ultra-violet radiation. Ongoing studies since then have revealed that the level of geomagnetic activity at solar minimum is a reliable prdictr for the amplitude of the following solar activity maximum.
